Learning More About USC. There is certainly lot to know about USC. As admission counselors we’re faced with learning about150 majors and 150 minors across 14 departments. Each summer we dedicate time for you to visit with representatives, teachers and students that are current our academic departments to be brought up to speed regarding the brand new and exciting things occurring on campus.

We began our quest for information at the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism where we had been greeted with both https://shmoop.pro/ gourmet cookies (our peers at Annenberg know we now have a sweet tooth) and a presentation about some of the amazing opportunities Annenberg students had over the year that is past. I had been particularly impressed to learn that 21 of our Journalism pupils had the ability to intern during the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

Our stop that is next was USC Dornsife university of Letters, Arts and Sciences where we met with Vice Dean Steve Lamy who spoke about problem-based learning opportunities like Problems without Passports and Maymester, plus the variety of undergraduate research opportunities. It was exciting to listen to about Dr. Lamy’s dilemmas without Passports trip to the Arctic. He took a team of 18 USC students, including nine freshmen, to master more about the location and the effects of global warming. The trip began in Stockholm where students learned comfort research, met with the seat for the Arctic Council, the Russian Ambassador of Sweden then with Green Peace Ambassadors. The journey ended in St. Petersburg where they spent the Fourth of July on the Gulf of Finland ending up in top boffins. What an opportunity!

Our visit to the Viterbi class of Engineering included an impressive pupil panel. We came across a student that has devoted their time that is spare to in the USC Rocket Propulsion Lab. The ultimate objective associated with Rocket Propulsion Lab is usually to be the very first band of university students to introduce a rocket into room, as well as are becoming pretty close! In true USC fashion, the lab is open to ALL USC students, not just to students studying engineering.

The newest academic year promises new classes, new friends, and on our campus, new dining options! Over this past summer time, our campus experienced many updates like the addition of another conventional dining hall. These three dining halls are strategically located throughout our campus to provide our students convenient options just steps from their dorm room.

Forms of Senior School Visits

We admission officers are presently into the thick of what we call travel season. We’re busy visiting prospective students at high schools across the country. A typical high college check out comprises of providing information about USC where we are found, what kinds of scholastic programs we provide, just what campus life is like and also includes information concerning the admission procedure and application.

This is certainly my travel that is 4th season which means I’ve encountered many kinds of high school visits. Each check out includes a slightly altered format as well as the period of time for a call can vary, too. One form of high school visit does occur when we’ve a class that is entire to talk with prospective students. These often occur in a classroom or in the guidance office conference lobby or room area. Typically, we’ve a lot more than sufficient time and energy to discuss USC and answer any relevant questions that come up.

Another type of see we see occurs during a school’s meal duration. Sometimes we shall sit inside the lunch room area, while other times we would be situated in a hallway outside of where pupils are eating therefore that students can come grab a brochure when they have a chance. This is just a great chance of schools that aren’t in a position to let students miss class to talk to university admission officers.

The set-up that is mini-fair a common variety of visit during which multiple universities attend the exact same senior school at similar time so students can easily see a number of schools to see the similarities and differences between colleges. Although students are able to consult with different university representatives, there’s not usually time to know a full presentation about any one university.

Each high school offers a unique forum for students to understand about college opportunities. We do give students the opportunity to ask any specific questions they may be curious about while we have specific topics to discuss. Before a USC representative comes to see your school, you may want to invest some time thinking by what you are looking for in an university and come prepared with specific questions which will assist guide your college search.
